Bluefield University Director of Athletics Mike White is excited to announce that Bluefield University will be launching men’s and women’s track & field beginning in the fall of 2019, with preparations for the start of both programs beginning immediately.
The track & field programs will meet the needs of many incoming freshmen who want to continue their track and field careers at a Christian University. Track and field is one of the highest participation sports for high school students across the country, and Bluefield is excited to offer this opportunity for prospective student-athletes. The new track and field programs should also help strengthen the school’s cross-country programs, giving those student-athletes a chance to train and compete almost year-round.
“This addition will strengthen our athletic department in many ways,” stated White. “We are excited to offer men’s and women’s track and field to bring our sports offering total to 18 here at Bluefield University.”
Coach Kendall Haynes will serve as the coach for the men’s and women’s track and field programs and says that his goal for the programs is to create a dynasty from the ground up at Bluefield University. “I plan to do this by first having a firm Christ-centered foundation from the start of the programs. The main focus can’t be just running, jumping, or throwing. I want to prepare my athletes to go out and have success in all aspects of life. If I am not helping the athletes grow in faith and in life to succeed, I am not doing my job.” Haynes adds, “1 Corinthians 9:24 says, ‘Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.”
