A Christmas Story: The Musical is based on the beloved 1983 Christmas movie by the same title. Based on the humorous writings of Jean Shepherd, A Christmas Story is set in the 1930’s and follows the adventures of young Ralphie Parker as he plots and maneuvers to snag the ultimate Christmas present for any red-blooded American boy—a beautiful brand new Red Ryder BB gun! The stage play features all the memorable moments from the film with roles for boys and girls from elementary through high school.
Bluefield Youth Theatre was founded in 2007 by Bluefield University theatre faculty Charles M. Reese and Rebecca McCoy-Reese. In the last eleven years the company has produced twenty-four stage productions featuring the children and youth of the two Virginias. A Christmas Story: The Musical will be the group’s twenty-fifth production.
A Christmas Story: The Musical will run December 13-16 with evening performances at 7:30, Thursday-Saturday and 3:00 Sunday. Rehearsals will be held Monday-Friday, 4:00-6:00 pm beginning October 18. You can register at www.bluefield.edu/FACS.
