Bluefield University is celebrating thirty-seven baptisms this academic year, twenty-nine of which occurred in February. On the night of February 26 alone, twenty-one people were baptized or renewed their baptismal vows at a student ministries event.
These public professions of faith occurred at the weekly Elevate worship service hosted by Bluefield University Student Ministries (BUSM) each Sunday night during the academic year. The campus ministries team also coordinates small group gatherings called “Roots,” an Impact outreach team, and special events, such as last month’s series of “Deeper Revival Nights.” Bluefield University students have a variety of opportunities to participate or serve in ministry from attending chapel services on Wednesday mornings to evangelizing internationally with the Missions Club.
“Being a part of campus ministries has brought me closer to God and given me a community that I can be vulnerable with about my faith,” said Grace Trent, a member of the chapel and Elevate worship teams and a freshman majoring in psychology and human services.
“I joined Elevate as soon I started coming to BU,” said Cameron Justis, a freshman majoring in business. “At first, I can say I was uncomfortable, but soon I found a second home and another body of believers to fellowship and worship with. Every night seeing God do something in someone’s life has been so amazing to see.”
As revival services at faith-based institutions draw national attention, Bluefield University’s Campus Ministries team has continued to engage students in Christ-centered conversations, resulting in dozens of fresh commitments to the faith.
“I have been going to Elevate since the Elevate party last semester,” said Hannah Mac, a music education major. “I am a part of Roots, and I am on a missions team and the Impact team! I have been closer to God than I have in years.”
“As I became more involved with Elevate, Roots, and other ministry events, I felt a strong desire to change and grew closer to the Lord,” said Jonathan Collier, a freshman majoring in cybersecurity.
Trent, Justis, Mac, and Collier were among the twenty-one baptized on February 26.
“I felt that I needed to renew my commitment to Christ,” Trent shared. “I need to let everyone know that they would see a heart transformation through my re-commitment. I lay everything at His feet.”
“I had not planned on being rebaptized Sunday,” Collier said, “but during the service, I felt like God was calling me to rededicate myself to Him and start a fresh chapter of my life focused on Him.”
