On a momentous occasion marked by reflection and gratitude, Bluefield University honored its former president, Dr. David Olive, with the unveiling of his official presidential portrait. The event brought together faculty, staff, alumni, and community members to celebrate Dr. Olive’s legacy of leadership, service, and dedication to the university.

Dr. Olive, who faithfully served as president of Bluefield University from 2007 to 2023, played an instrumental role in guiding the institution through growth and transformation. Under his leadership, Bluefield saw the expansion of academic programs, the enhancement of campus facilities, and a deepening of its Christian mission. The unveiling of his portrait symbolizes not only his achievements but also the collective milestones the university reached during his tenure.

During the unveiling ceremony, the Chairman of the Board, Jack Reasor, shared remarks, expressing appreciation for Dr. Olive’s longtime service to the university.

“You are now a part of the 102-year history of this university,” Chairman Reasor said of Dr. Olive, “and we will permanently acknowledge that with the unveiling of this portrait. Thank you for your service. Thank you for what you have done over the years for this community. Many students have come through this school, as well as faculty, administration, and staff, and the relationships that you have built with alumni and contributors and the community have been so vital and important to our school.”

Dr. Olive, joined by his wife, reflected on his time as president with gratitude. “It has been a privilege and an honor to serve at this wonderful institution alongside so many great people,” he remarked. “I am deeply moved by this recognition, and I will always cherish my time here at Bluefield. My prayer is that this university will continue to be a beacon of Christian education, shaping future generations of leaders.”

Following the unveiling, guests were invited to a reception where they shared a time of fellowship with Dr. Olive, expressing their well-wishes for his future endeavors.
