Bluefield University offers its students a variety of ways to go further in their faith, including worship experiences, small group Bible studies, and community service opportunities. Each year, the university’s Missions Club sends two teams to join other ministries in their evangelism and service efforts, one during Spring Break in March and the other after graduation in May.
While BU students and staff are currently exploring opportunities for the March team to partner with a domestic ministry, the May team will once again serve internationally at a Christian children’s home in Ecuador. The organization For His Children provides care to children in at-risk situations, such as abandonment or neglect, in conjunction with local authorities and social services. Additionally, they also create pathways for adoption with loving families.
In Ecuador, members of the Missions Club will organize and lead daily children’s ministry activities similar to a Vacation Bible School for the week. Additionally, the team will minister to For His Children’s caregivers by helping clean and do minor repairs while encouraging them in their ministry.
Mission opportunities at Bluefield University are made possible due to the support of generous donors and team members covering all expenses. Contributions can be made at https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/bumissions2025 or mailed to the Bluefield University Missions Club, 3000 College Avenue, Bluefield, VA, 24605. Community members can also support the Missions Club by purchasing tickets for its gift card raffle. The winner will receive a basket of gift cards for Starbucks, Dairy Queen, Outback, and more. One ticket is $5, 3 tickets are $10, and 20 or more tickets are $1 each. Tickets are currently being sold by club members and will be available December 12-15 during Bluefield Community and Youth Theatre’s production of Little Women. The winner will be announced on Monday, December 16. For more information, contact Club President Macy McBride at [email protected] or Club Vice President Sara Dunphy at [email protected].
