After bidding farewell to Dr. Donna Hardy Watson at the close of the 2016-2017 academic year, Bluefield University took steps to ensure that her legacy would remain through the creation of the Dr. Donna Watson Goodness and Light Alumni Award.
Created collaboratively by the School of Education and Social Sciences (SOE) and the Office of Alumni Relations, the Goodness and Light Alumni Award is designed to recognize SOE graduates who are “doing great things in our schools and classrooms.” The award is given annually in her honor to recognize a graduate of the School of Education who embodies her mantra of spreading goodness and light in the field of education.
“It’s indeed a privilege to be able to recognize the legacy of Dr. Watson by honoring a graduate from our School of Education,” said Shellie Brown, Director of Teacher Education. “This award gives us the opportunity to recognize members of our outstanding alumni base with an honor that best expresses our appreciation for their service to our schools and communities.”
The Dr. Donna Watson Goodness and Light Alumni Award will be presented as part of Homecoming on Friday, November 2, at 4:00 P.M. in Easley Library. Alumni and friends are invited to attend to celebrate Dr. Watson’s contributions to Bluefield University and the presentation of the annual Goodness and Light Alumni Award.
You may nominate an outstanding Bluefield University alumni educator for the Goodness and Light award, by submitting your nomination online by October 12.
