Bluefield University mourns the loss of Carl “David” Gilmore, a hardworking and loyal member of the Rams community. In his fourteen years with our maintenance staff, his generosity and dependability created a lasting impact.
David’s invaluable service to our students was especially evident in the winter of 2009-2010 when the town of Bluefield experienced a record 80 inches of snowfall. He and his colleagues averaged 12-hour days and once worked 24 consecutive hours to ensure the campus was clear and safe for our students, faculty, and additional staff.
“David’s service to our campus and commitment to the university motivated those he helped and those he worked alongside,” said Hal Keene, BU’s Director of Facilities. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as we remember him and his dedication to our community.”
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield, West Virginia. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2024, followed by his burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, West Virginia.
