Bluefield University is preparing to celebrate a historic moment in its 102-year history with the upcoming inauguration of its 10th president, Dr. Steve Peterson.
The formal ceremony, which will take place on Wednesday, October 16, will mark a new chapter for the university as Dr. Peterson steps into leading the university into its next era.
Dr. Peterson officially assumed the presidency earlier this year and is no stranger to higher education, having served in various leadership roles over a 30-year career. As an experienced administrator, he understands the challenges and opportunities facing Christian universities today.
“Now is the time to continue to innovate and expand the university’s footprint across the region and on a national and global scale,” said Peterson. “We have a unique opportunity to build on the strengths of Bluefield, enhancing the educational experience for both traditional and non-traditional students.”
The official ceremony will include academic processions, inspiring speeches, and the formal installation of Dr. Peterson. Additionally, the inauguration will draw distinguished guests from higher education, religious communities, and regional leadership. Representatives from Liberty University, Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, the Baptist General Association of Virginia, local pastors, and Bluefield’s esteemed alumni network and supporters are among the invited speakers and attendees.
As Dr. Peterson takes the helm, he joins a long line of visionary leaders who have shaped the university’s path since its founding in 1922. His commitment to upholding the university’s mission will guide his leadership as he implements the recently adopted strategic plan.
The Bluefield community awaits this significant occasion, which promises to celebrate a new presidency and reaffirm the university’s unwavering commitment to providing Christ-centered education.
