After bidding farewell to Dr. Donna Hardy Watson at the close of the 2016-2017 academic year, Bluefield University took steps to ensure that her legacy would remain through the creation of the Dr. Donna Watson Goodness and Light Alumni Award. We are proud to announce that this year’s award winner is Jennifer Brewster. Mrs. Brewster is a 5th-grade teacher at Graham Intermediate School.
Created collaboratively by the School of Education (SOE) and the Office of Alumni Relations, the Goodness and Light Alumni Award was designed to recognize SOE graduates who are “doing great things in our schools and classrooms.” The award is given annually in Dr. Watson’s honor to recognize a graduate of the School of Education who embodies her mantra of spreading “goodness and light” in the field of education.
“It’s indeed a privilege to be able to recognize the legacy of Dr. Watson by honoring a graduate from our School of Education,” said Dr. Shellie Brown, Director of Teacher Education. “This award allows us to recognize members of our outstanding alumni base with an honor that best expresses our appreciation for their service to our schools and communities. We are especially excited to honor this year’s recipient Jennifer Brewster.”
The Dr. Donna Watson Goodness and Light Alumni Award will be presented virtually via Zoom as part of Homecoming activities on Friday, October 9, 2020, at 4:00 PM.
