Bluefield University Secures $400,000 Grant to Revive Alumni Hall Dormitory

by | Mar 27, 2025

BLUEFIELD, Va. – Bluefield University is announcing plans to restore the Alumni Hall dormitory through a $400,000 matching grant from the Hugh I. Shott, Jr. Foundation, part of the blueprint for future campus renewal efforts.

The residence hall, which has been offline for several years due to deterioration and fire damage, will undergo comprehensive renovations beginning in April. Completion is targeted before the fall 2025 semester classes resume. The project will bring 46 rooms back online, allowing the university to expand on-campus enrollment compared to recent years.

“We are excited to bring new life to Alumni Hall,” said Dr. Steve Peterson, President of Bluefield University. “This restoration aligns with our vision for campus renewal, ensuring our students have a quality environment for learning and community.”

The university has launched a fundraising campaign in which all donations will be doubled through the foundation’s $400,000 matching grant. Peterson says this project represents the first phase of a broader campus revitalization initiative. Renovations will include modernized living spaces and updated amenities to meet student expectations.

“Every dollar donated up to the match will be doubled, allowing us to renovate the facility completely,” said Peterson. “We are inviting alumni and friends to participate in this transformation by contributing to the project.”
