Bluefield, VA – Bluefield University Theatre Department will present a virtual production of the beloved Christmas classic, Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. This video production features a cast of 22, including current faculty and students of the Bluefield University Theatre Department and nine alumni participating from throughout the two Virginias and as far away as South Korea.
Bluefield University’s rendition of A Christmas Carol is directed by Charles M. Reese and Rebecca McCoy-Reese, theatre faculty at BU, and will be available on December 15, 2020, to be viewed via the Bluefield University Theatre Department Facebook page and YouTube channel.
“The challenge was rehearsing and video recording the production entirely through Zoom and Teams,” said Charles Reese, director of theatre. “We had issues with scheduling with two of our cast members thirteen hours ahead of us. We had to deal with weather and system usage – there were days working on the internet was very challenging.”
The alumni cast for Bluefield University’s A Christmas Carol includes Virginia Bird, Mindy Blume, Jennifer Bohannan, Carrington Hawthorne, Mary Jones, Josh King, Kara Neal, Katherine Shumate, and Brittany Walters.
“It has been an exciting, challenging, and often daunting process, said Charles Reese. “We were forced to rethink how we approach storytelling and theatre. The students and alumni were amazing to work with. The final product is a gift of love to our Bluefield family and community.”
