Bluefield University is excited to welcome its alumni and friends to campus for the 2024 Homecoming and Family Weekend, Wednesday, October 16 through Sunday, October 20.
On Wednesday, the university will unveil the portrait of its Ninth President and Chancellor, Dr. David Olive, at 9:00 a.m. on the second floor of Lansdell Hall. The Inaugural Convocation of Tenth President Dr. Steven Peterson will follow at 10:30 a.m. in Harman Chapel.
The BU Theatre Department’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat opens on Thursday in Harman Chapel with shows at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The institution’s annual bonfire will be held outside the Dome Gymnasium at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Festivities begin on Friday with a golf outing at Fincastle. The university’s alumni and friends have the opportunity to play 18 holes beginning at 11:00 a.m.
At noon, BU’s Hospitality Room opens and its Homecoming Family Luncheon will be held in Shott Hall.
Pumpkin decorating begins at 3:00 p.m. in the quad for alumni, friends, students, and employees.
A reception for this year’s recipients of the Dr. Donna Watson Goodness and Light Alumni Award will be held at 4:00 p.m. in Easley Library. This award recognizes teacher education graduates for their excellence in schools and classrooms. The Golden Graduate Reception will follow at 5:30 p.m. in Shott Hall, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the class of 1974.
Bluefield University Athletics will host Mountaintop Madness at 6:00 p.m. in the Dome Gymnasium.
The night will end with a mixer for alumni and friends in Shott Hall and a dance for current students in the dining hall beginning at 8:00 p.m.
On Saturday, the Hospitality Room will reopen at 8:00 a.m. in Shott Hall, and breakfast will be served from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
Campus tours with our admissions staff and student ambassadors will be available beginning at 9:00 a.m., starting at the front steps of Lansdell Hall.
The Alumni Association will meet at 10:00 a.m. in Shott Hall. All BU alumni, as well as current and former Trustees and Advisory Council members, are invited to join.
An additional alumni mixer begins at 11:00 a.m. in Shott Hall with a meet and greet for the class of 1974 occurring simultaneously in the Chandler Boardroom on the third floor of Lansdell Hall.
The Alumni Awards Banquet will be held at 11:30 a.m. in Harman Chapel. Alumni are nominated by their peers to be recognized for community service, professional accomplishments, and personal achievements. The program will recognize the following honorees:

- Yaro Hnatusko ’20, Young Alumnus of the Year
The Rams football team will face off against the Kentucky Christian Knights at 3:30 p.m. at Mitchell Stadium. Prior to the game, a tailgate lunch will be available in the stadium parking lot at 2:00 p.m. and the annual tailgate competition will begin at 3:00 p.m.
A fellowship dinner for the class of 1974 will begin at 6:00 p.m. in Shott Hall.
The weekend concludes on Sunday after worship with Highlands Fellowship at 11:00 a.m. in Harman Chapel, a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. in Shott Hall, and the final showing of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at 3:00 p.m.
