PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Student Accounts/Collections Graduate Assistant is responsible for helping manage all former students with past-due balances as well as providing Customer Service to all current students.
The Student Accounts/Collections Graduate Assistant reports to the Student Accounts Manager while working collaboratively with the Interim Vice President for Finance & Administration and Assistant Vice President for Finance and Administration.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND FUNCTIONS
The essential duties, responsibilities, and functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for calling former students who have past-due balances weekly.
- Responsible for mailing statements and final letters to former students with past-due balances monthly.
- Utilize phone, email, and mail to communicate with current and prospective students promptly, providing superior student service to students.
- Advises Student Account Manager of student account/collections issues.
- Maintains an awareness of the effects of accounts receivable decisions and transactions on the University’s financial status. Helps ensure that adequate internal financial controls regarding accounts receivable and collections are documented and operational.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, regional, and institutional regulations, and policies to ensure security and confidentiality of student academic and personal data.
- Ability to work independently, multitask, arrange information sessions, set appointments, and positively promote the University.
- Ability to follow the expectation of treating fellow employees, students, and the institution’s guests with civility, and to refrain from activities that disrupt the efficient functioning of the University.
- Interprets University policies for employees and enforces safety regulations.
- Compliance with all rules, policies, and procedures as established by Bluefield University.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND FUNCTIONS
This position does not directly supervise employees.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Candidates should have successful experience in developing and managing student customer services within a campus-wide, team approach and should possess a bachelor’s degree or be actively pursuing one. Candidates should be proficient with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Excellent analytical, administrative, and communication skills (both written and oral) and attention to detail are required. A demonstrated ability to build consensus among diverse constituents and proficiency with information is required.
ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS
This position requires performing office-related tasks, which involve sitting, standing, walking, and carrying light loads (books, displays, presentations).
