BLUEFIELD, Va. — Graham High School senior Skyler Koen has signed a letter of intent to compete with the Bluefield University e-sports team, joining a program that has recently expanded in size, scope, and recruiting efforts.
Koen is expected to contribute to a roster that competes in a wide variety of titles, including Call of Duty (Multiplayer), League of Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, Overwatch, Fortnite, Valorant, Rocket League, and Apex Legends. The university plans to add Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart soon.
“We’re excited to welcome Skyler to the program,” said Madison Whisman, director of e-sports at Bluefield University. “She brings great potential, and it’s always a proud moment to see local students take the next step in their e-sports journey right here at home.”
Bluefield University has recently invested in upgraded hardware, a broader game lineup, and outreach to local high schools as part of its strategy to grow the e-sports program.
“We want to introduce students to our program and give them a pathway to continue their e-sports careers at the collegiate level,” said Whisman.
