PRIMARY PURPOSE/SCOPE
The responsibility of this position consists of teaching graduate and undergraduate online and/or on-campus business courses (Accounting, Management, Sports Management, Marketing, Cybersecurity, Economics, Finance, etc.) as appropriate to credentials and need. The adjunct will facilitate meaningful learning of the course objectives, will proactively support all facets of the online and/or classroom learning environment, and will demonstrate the ability to work with a variety of learners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND FUNCTIONS
- Deliver class instruction through the instructional plans/syllabus to meet course objectives, develop assignment activities supporting course objectives, and appropriately deliver online or classroom instruction.
- Ability to use the Learning Management System (Canvas) and other relevant technology to facilitate the course. A Canvas Training course is required to be completed.
- Promote and enhance student success by exhibiting a passion for teaching, maintaining consistent, timely, and frequent communication with students, posting grades in a timely fashion, and demonstrating the ability to engage students in the learning process.
- Manage the learning environment by keeping accurate records, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing university/course policies.
- Employ a range of suitable teaching strategies, which may include but are not limited to video streaming lectures, discussion groups, hands-on activities, and various assessment approaches.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to represent Bluefield University within the academic community and, most importantly, to students and prospective students.
- Facilitate and pace instruction effectively to maximize student learning.
- Demonstrate time management and detail-oriented skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Business is required, terminal degree is preferred.
- Teaching experience is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years business experience preferred.
- Must be able to work with diverse populations.
- Must support the mission of Bluefield University.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND FUNCTIONS
An adjunct typically has no supervisory responsibilities over any employees.

This position has no specific working conditions; the work environment is typical to that of a small private residential institution of higher education, with physical remote site locations within 500 miles of the main campus in Bluefield, Virginia.
